Musical Therapy at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital

Kristin Abbott is a board-certified Music Therapist who works at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, Texas. Her music therapy services help patients with anxiety, depression and pain management during their time in hospital care.

She recently expanded her services into the neonatal intensive care unit when she noticed that her music helped to calm fussy babies.

"Whether you are an adult, child or an infant, we have music therapy services here at this hospital," Abbott said. "And if you find yourself here and you need a little pick-me-up, give me a call."

Dr. Alvin "Goldie" Mack

Dr. Alvin "Goldie" Mack Jr. Ph.D. is martial arts instructor in Denton, Texas. Having previously served for the Denton Police Department, Mack is no stranger to violence.

But throughout the whole time he was an officer with the police department, Mack said he never had to fight someone he was arresting. He attributed this to how the martial arts taught him to use his mind over his body.

"In Lincoln, Nebraska, I had a rollover accident where I rolled over 15 times," Mack said. "When I woke up, I was in a hospital ward facing upside down looking in the mirror, and the doctor told me that my neck was broken and I would never walk again. Three years, two months later: I was walking with a cane and back to work. Six months later: I was back teaching classes. And I've been walking ever since."
